The Big Green Pool

The world has become chaotic at our house until last night. Our pool was green when the cover came off. My niece was coming to visit and I thought we should have the use of it. Well, no........ Then the investigation began, tests, tests. Thought it was algal, nope! Turns out it was calcium. The pool was put in in 1958 and it finally had enough concentration of Ca to precipitate out. It is like a coral reef in there and you can't go in without foot coverage. The Ca is yellow and the pool is blue----viola it's green. If you take the water out of the pool it is clear. Weird and icky.  My cashier at the big Walmart-old hippee George says "oh yeah lots of Calcium here, even in the air." Don't know about that but we push on. Hubby is now scraping the walls and sides (surprisingly easy with the right tool-a weed hoe) and then we will drain.  Hopefully, that will set the clock back, the concentration will go down enough and it will look pleasant as well as be safe . Not that Ca isn't, but in the words of my OB when the baby's heart rate went up due to psuedofed, "It just looks bad." (aren't people weird!) Then, like now, we are getting rid of the chemical. Wish us luck! Finally, our pool will be used!
